Whether you are living in the Austin metro area or just stopping by for the summer, the Central Texas area has a lot to offer families seeking friendly summertime fun. While there are countless options for enjoying seasonal activities with children, here are a few worth noting that you may want to place on your priority list this summer.
Water Parks
I think water parks are the best thing about summer. The world famous Schlitterbahn water park has been a highly recommended family destination for years. If that is too expensive or overwhelming for you, I suggest taking a visit to Volente Beach water park. This is a smaller and more family friendly water park with a lakeside beach.
There is also Barton Springs Pool located at Zilker Metropolitan park. It is a natural spring that is very inexpensive and even has an educational exhibit. Of course, admission fees can still add up, so there are several neighborhood pools provided by the city free of charge.
Explore Nature
If you want to enjoy nature without the camping hassle, there are several excellent options around Austin. Although I already mentioned Zilker Park, it is worth noting that this place has several fun outdoor activities available for a wide age group, like a sculpture garden, botanical garden, and miniature train. Plus, they have an awesome nature and science center.
Other popular ways to explore nature this summer include a visit to the Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary. They rehabilitate animals and provide educational opportunities for children. The New Farm Institute at Green Gate Farms is a unique experience in farming and sustainable foods for those looking to do something a little different this summer.
Educational Fun
Sneaking in an educational experience during the summer can help to keep the kids on track for the coming school year. Plus, there are so many wonderful places to visit around Austin that it would be a shame not to try a few. While there have been some great places already mentioned, The Thinkery is an interactive children's museum that goes above and beyond the others. They provide an innovative learning experience for the whole family to create problem solvers.
Austin also has a great aquarium that is on the list of favorite family destinations. But, a go-to place for kids during the summer has to be the local library. In Austin, there is a library for every neighborhood, and they are all awesome. Each library has a summer reading program for children to learn and grow.
No matter where you are located in the city, there is something fun for your family. Cool off at your local watering hole. Explore nature and learn something new!
