Taylor Texas is a suburban community located in Williamson County with a population of approximately 17,513. It is 13.6 square miles in size with 5300 households in the city. It was first named Taylor Station after a railroad official and later called Taylorsville and then finally the name was changed to Taylor.
The town is situated 29 miles northeast of Austin. Taylor is considered part of the Austin metropolitan area although it has quite a lot to offer on its own. There are plenty of modern and historical lodging options, the Governor Dan Moody Museum, plenty of family events such as the Taylor Zest Fest, and world-famous barbecue restaurants.
Taylor also has athletic complexes including a softball and baseball complex, football, and soccer fields, a fishing pond, and the Williamson County Expo Center and rodeo arena. There are many stately mansions nestled throughout Taylor. These large charming homes filled with timeless character have been maintained for generations by the same families, while others have been restored and modernized. These beautiful old homes reflect a time of affluence in a younger Taylor.
The community takes great pride in its ethnic diversity that includes Black, Czech, English, German, Hispanic, Polish, Scotch-Irish, Swedish, and Mid-Eastern. This diversity is never more evident than during the annual “Taylor History Days”.
