The city of Austin, located in Central Texas, has no shortage of great food options. One of the popular choices in the area is Mexican food. For those food connoisseurs that love tacos, Austin has everything from meat filled to vegetarian, and breakfast to dinner choices. The following are the five best Mexican food restaurants to pick up some of these shelled delights:

  • Dos Batos has some of the best Mexican eats in Central Texas. The restaurant is located just east of the North Mopac Expressway and West Anderson Lane exit. Dos Batos puts an interesting touch on their taco choices with cooking them on a wood fired grill. Customers can choose from Angus top sirloin, chicken, veggie, or any combination thereof. There are also salads, tortas, and sides on the menu.

  • Nonos Tacos is a cash only establishment that is well-known for its fresh tortillas that are homemade daily. This small North Austin restaurant offers outdoor picnic table seating and nothing but fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine. Nonos is family owned and prides itself on serving the freshest ingredients from local vendors. The menu options also include burritos, tortas, hamburgers, and more.

  • Tyson's Tacos keeps customers in the Airport Corridor raving for more. This quaint and adorable restaurant has over 20 different taco options, including a build your own taco menu. Other than a salad or chips and guacamole, Tyson's sticks to only serving the best taco specialties, such as the Burnt Ends taco that includes onion rings, Valentina cream and jalapenos that are pickled. As if that wasn't enough, the build-your-own ingredients include items like Takis, potatoes, gravy, egg, and more.

  • Cool Beans puts an interesting twist on their version of the taco. This food truck eatery, located on Fruth street between Austin's Heritage and West Campus neighborhoods offers all vegan taco, tamale, and nacho selections. The salsa, corn tortillas, mayo and cremas are homemade and the majority of menu items are gluten and soy free. Everybody that eats here can take comfort in knowing the ingredients are animal-free, natural and organic.

  • Juana Taco is located on Austin's East side just off N Interstate Highway 35. This colorful good truck offers breakfast, a la carte, and entree taco choices. Hungry customers can pick from meat or veggie taco options, as well as appetizers, quesadillas, tortas, and sincronizadas. Not only does Juana's take pride in serving local and fresh ingredients to its community, but the company also supports local outreach programs and charities such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

These are just a few of the tasty taco establishments that locals rave about and recommend to visitors. There are many other delectable options throughout Austin's Central Texas neighborhoods.
