Williamson county residents and visitors are getting closer to seeing the completion of the Brushy Creek Regional Trail at Twin Lakes Park in Cedar Park. Recently, ground was broken on Phase 3 of the project that will extend the trail from Cedar Park’s Brushy Creek Lake Park at Parmer Lane and Brushy Creek Road, nearly three miles west, to Twin Lakes Park at Highway 183 and Little Elm.
Williamson County Parks and Recreation will be overseeing the project along with two local companies from the Round Rock area, landscape architects BWM Group and contractors Chasco Construction. Funding for the Trail has come from many different sources. The Texas Park and Wildlife Department contributed $517,023, and $150,000 was collected from the cities of Austin and Cedar Park. The rest of the funding needed for the trail will come from Williamson County Park bond funds.
Phase 3 of the bike trail may be one of the most scenic parts of the trail. The 10-foot wide trail provides plenty of room, and includes five pedestrian bridges. The trail runs along a historic railroad trestle that was used to transport granite to the state capitol. Granite boulders which fell off the train during this time can still be seen along the trail. This final phase will almost complete the original vision of the eight-mile trail connecting Round Rock to Cedar Park.
